The YLR-U series is the industry's smallest kilowatt-class fibre laser, offering powerful performance in an ultra-compact size with an exceptional power to volume ratio. Building on the technology platform of the 3kW YLR-U ultra-thin laser launched earlier this year, IPG has continued to optimise and upgrade it with the introduction of the new 6kW YLR-U, the world's smallest fibre laser.

The YLR-U series is a compact, technologically advanced fibre laser with an ultra-compact, gas-tight, rack-mountable design that enables manufacturers to achieve high productivity in material processing. Combining superior beam quality, long-term power stability, outstanding reliability and industry-leading electro-optical conversion efficiency, the YLR-U fibre laser delivers greater value to the user.

The new 6kW YLR-U laser offers an industry-leading power/volume ratio of 0.06 m3, 1/5 the size and 80 kG, 1/3 the weight of comparable products on the market. The ultra-compact 4U chassis design results in a thin and light body that is easier to integrate.


In many demanding sheet metal processing industries, dozens of laser machines are used continuously in order to increase productivity, such as laser cutting of thick metal sheets 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In this production mode, the new 6kW YLR-U laser, with its ultra-compact construction, can be integrated directly into the laser system or into a small rack or cabinet next to the system, making it easy for system manufacturers to integrate and optimise their footprint compared to conventional high-power lasers.

The new 6kW YLR-U laser incorporates the benefits of IPG technology and is one of the few high power lasers on the market with a gas-tight construction. It can operate in harsh environments with relative humidity of up to 90% and temperatures of up to 40°C (104°F). In addition, the new 6kW YLR-U's web connection allows remote control and intelligent monitoring, and has built-in diagnostic assistance.


"The new YLR-U series is lighter, thinner and 50 percent smaller than the previous generation of YLR lasers," said Trevor Ness, IPG's senior vice president of global sales and strategic business development. "The small size of the new 6kW YLR-U not only saves valuable floor space in the factory, but also allows for stable operation and high quality processing even in the most demanding high temperature and humidity environments, while providing high energy efficiency. The new 6kW YLR-U laser is ideal for manufacturers looking to replace a large and inefficient laser with a large water cooler."


The new 6kW YLR-U laser delivers excellent productivity for major material processing applications such as welding and cutting, with low overall operating costs and failure rates.
